Simply Static FAQs

A static site generator converts your dynamic website into a static one containing just HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and images/videos. This can drastically improve the website’s performance as it no longer needs to connect to a database to get the content.

It also improves the security of your website once you push your static website to a static hosting provider, as a potential hacker can’t execute any server-side code or grab users from your database.

Simply Static works similarly to the Google Crawler. It starts with your homepage and follows all the links it can find to further navigate through your website. You can also use an SEO plugin and provide an XML sitemap to ensure all relevant pages of your website get converted to a static site.

Simply Static provides settings on network and subsite level. This means you can export all your subsites to a static site from within your site network.

Webhooks are an easy way to notify external services like Zapier that a certain action has happened. We use it in Simply Static to send notifications when an export has finished, or someone submits a form on your website.

In a matter of seconds with Single Exports and within a few minutes with Build Exports. A full static export might take a bit longer, depending on the size of your website.

Using WP-CLI with Simply Static is simple. We made the integration interaction and included documentation directly within the terminal. To start, type “wp simplystatic” to get started. You can learn more about our integration here.

We are working on an entire directory of supported plugins. In the meantime, you can check out our docs article here.
